My go-to breakfast on the trail – oatmeal. This isn’t that sugary, packet stuff. This is hearty, creamy oats. Some hikers get sick of it, but I crave it.
Thru Hiker Oatmeal
3/4 cup quick oats
1 tsp brown sugar
1/3 cup instant dry milk
dash of salt
1/4 cup dried fruit (I add raisins to mine)
1 TBS ground flaxseed
1 1/2 cups water, added on the trail
Cooking Option A: For an easy on-the-go breakfast, simply add water directly to oatmeal bag. Wait 30-45 minutes to completely soak and then enjoy cold.
Cooking Option B: Add the dry oat mixture to your insulated camping mug. Pour boiling water into mug and let it cook in your mug, covered for 5 minutes.
